MasterChef helps Childline raise £822,000

Global brand, MasterChef brought extraordinary cooking entertainment and culinary excellence to last night’s 2019 Childline Ball. The fundraiser partnered with Shine TV, the production company behind the iconic show.

The event was hosted by 2018 Celebrity MasterChef contestant Spencer Matthews and 2017 Celebrity MasterChef winner, Angellica Bell.

Angellica Bell said:

“It was an absolute pleasure to host the 2019 Childline Ball alongside Spencer last night. Childline supports some of the most vulnerable children in the UK and it was wonderful to see guests come together for their very own taste of MasterChef, raising vital funds for young people who may have nowhere else to turn.”

MasterChef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace attended the Ball to share their knowledge, expertise and passion for food. They were joined by MasterChef: The Professionals judges Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti who took part in a cooking challenge with guests.

Guests were also entertained by Janet Devlin, who rose to fame in the eighth series of The X Factor in 2011 and singer-songwriter Kara Marni. As well as a range of celebrity supporters and high profile leaders from the media and business worlds, previous MasterChef winners Simon Wood, Irini Tzortzoglou, Jane Devonshire, Saliha Mahmood Ahmed and Kenny Tutt attended the event and supported with producing the menu for the evening.

Dame Esther Rantzen, the founder of Childline, said:

“The Childline Ball is one of the highlights of our year, and the 2019 event with its MasterChef theme was a spectacular evening. Not only was it fantastic to partner with a global brand like MasterChef who brought something extra special and new to the Childline Ball, but we raised a huge sum of money for Childline so we can continue to be there for children who desperately need us.”

On average, a child contacts Childline every 25 seconds, with almost three-quarters of our counselling sessions with young people now taking place online. Childline became part of the NSPCC in 2006.
