The event was held as usual at Mayhew’s Home in Kensal Green. Visitors to the annual Open Day had the chance to take a unique look behind the scenes at the work Mayhew do; whilst enjoying a fun family day out jam-packed with live music, stalls, and outdoor games and activities!

The day was hosted by journalist and television presenter Wendy Turner Webster, a dedicated animal welfare campaigner, who expertly kept the days’ entertainment flowing and introduced the Happily Rehomed Parade on stage.

They were delighted to see Minnie and her owner return for the day, and to hear about how they are now stopped on the street when out for walks after a photo of Minnie being held by Mayhew Patron HRH The Duchess of Sussex went viral back in January this year!

Mayhew was also thrilled to welcome Neil Morrissey, Andy Slaughter MP and Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham Daryl Brown to the festivities, each of whom were given a tour of the facilities and enjoyed mingling with two and four-legged guests.

Neil Morrissey said:

“Mayhew is an absolutely fantastic charity and a beautiful oasis for animals in need in North London. I’ve just had the full tour of their new facilities, and what they do here is absolutely unbelievable. You can play your part by coming down and adopting a dog (or cat) like I did!”

Singer/songwriter George Ritchie then entertained the crowds, followed by Knox and Peter Parker from Camden’s Rock and Roll Rescue charity shop who also made a very generous donation to Mayhew to help animals in need.

Throughout the day, guests also enjoyed taking a peek behind the scenes in the Cattery and Vet Clinic, where they met feline residents awaiting new homes and found out more about the preventative care and community support offered outside of the shelter.

After browsing a number of animal-themed stalls to purchase gifts for both two and four-legged friends, visitors then took advantage of the lovely weather to relax in the garden area, sipping Pimms and enjoying a delicious vegetarian barbecue!

Elsewhere, guests were treated to a meet and greet with a handful of our TheraPaws dogs and volunteers, including Michelle with her dog Toffee, Jenny with her dog Sam, Marina and her dog Luna, and Linsey with her dog Bobby Jo.

The Animal Welfare Officers were also on hand to dispense advice, demonstrate how they humanely trap, neuter and return feral cats, and talk about Mayhew’s unique community support programmes that help people and pets in the local area.

Mayhew CEO Caroline Yates said:

“It was wonderful to see so many Mayhew supporters come out and enjoy the day with their family and friends. Everyone looked to be having a brilliant time, and we really enjoyed showing visitors around the Home and telling them all about the vital work we do to support animals and pet owners in our community.

“Thank you so much to everyone who attended – the money you raised will go straight towards helping even more animals in need, and we can’t wait to see you all next year!”
